Proposed Amendments on Glazing Rules FRA

Proposed Amendments on Glazing Rules FRA

  • On April 18, 2022

By Michael Barron

In today’s Federal Register, the FRA has published proposed amendments to the rules on glazing.  The goal of the amendments is to incorporate existing waivers into the current rules.  The two main points are a codification that equipment operating at speeds less than 30 MPH or older equipment in low-risk areas are exempt from the glazing requirements, and a change in testing rules to allow a steel ball test for verifying glazing strength in lieu of a cinder block test as the cinder blocks are no longer readily available.  Comments are due June 17.

The Final Rule can be found [here].
